About Darryl-David Diehr
I grew up learning to survive more than anything else. My life hasn’t been smooth or simple, and I never pretend it was. I’ve carried memories that were too heavy for a kid, and I’ve had to figure out how to stand back up more times than I can count. I’m not perfect, and I don’t try to be. I’m just someone who lived through a lot, kept going, and finally decided to tell the truth about it. Writing this memoir is my way of putting the pieces of my life in order, showing the real story instead of the version people think they know.
I’m from Fresno, California, and most of what shaped me happened long before I ever had the words to explain it. I learned from TV shows, from quiet rooms, from people who didn’t always understand me, and from moments that hit harder than they should have. I write the way I live — honestly, with all the dents and cracks showing. If you’re reading my work, I hope you see a little of yourself in it. I hope you feel less alone. And I hope you understand that even the hardest stories can still lead somewhere worth going.
